Healing The Wounds of Past Trauma


Today I'm going to address something that I almost never talk about. MY TRAUMATIC PAST. I don't want to delve into the in's and out's but I'd like to talk about my relationship with trauma. Growing up my childhood was very turbulent and I was only able to remove myself from that situation when I became an adult. This left me damaged however over time I feel like I've healed. Although something I've noticed not only in myself but others who have also suffer trauma is that we keep hurting ourselves. As human beings we tend to act up over our past, over and over again. Some people may think it is attention seeking or playing victim however I think it's a lot deeper than that.

Why do we keep hurting ourselves?

I think the answer to that is: we hurt ourselves until we heal ourselves.

As harsh as it may sound - trauma is almost a lesson. It's a teacher that pushes us grow and create character. We tend to get trapped in a "trauma loop" that plays out the pain and fear of the past over and over again - until one day we come to realise that we are stronger, more powerful and more in control that we had previously given ourselves credit for.

Here's what I know to be true: your pain won't go away until you learn the lesson it was sent to teach you. It's not so much that we are hurting ourselves, but instead, we are stuck repeating a lesson that will not go away until we've learned from it. And when we learn we grow. And when we grow, we are freed.

To simply put it, your chains will keep you trapped until you realise that you have the key to free yourself.

And in freeing yourself, you will then be able to help others realise that they, too, have their own key to find their freedom.

I am proud to say that I am free and I hope you are able to heal so you can be too.

Trauma is perhaps one of life's greatest teachers. It's wounds lead us to seek answers. It's hurt inspires us to help others.

With every breath I take, I am sending, love, gratitude and healing myself. Just like I survived my trauma I will survive this feeling too.
