The Importance of "Me Time"

Salman Dean
Many of us know that looking after ourselves is important but how many of us actually do it? I'm quite a selfless person and I have a problem saying no. Because of this I recently ended up suffering from exhaustion and my doctor told me I need to make some lifestyle changes. The level of stress in your life can have a profound knock on effect. I practically laughed when my doctor told me that some of the illnesses I'm suffering from are caused by stress. I can appreciate that stress isn't something you can control (I mean duh who would want to be stressed out) but there are small changes you can make to your life. Basic things such as exercising, eating well, staying hydrated and getting enough sleep can help make you feel better.

I must admit I've made these small changes and although they've helped I still sometimes feel stressed. The main cause of this is because I'm too busy and I hardly make time for myself anymore. I'm always on the go whether I'm working, writing for PAUSE Magazine or creating content for the blog. I miss the good old days when I could stay in bed and just binge watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

The purpose of this post is to say you can stay in bed and binge watch TV - you just have to make time for it. I've started scheduling in "me time" and no surprise it seems to be working. While I don't dedicate the whole day to myself I do allow myself an hour or two to do what I want. My favourite way of unwinding is indulging in treats and doing a little light reading. I'm currently in love with the Crabtree & Evelyn Afternoon Tea - it just relaxes me. Also you can never go wrong with some sweet treats whether it's macaroons or the Crabtree & Evelyn's Delicious Shortbread biscuits.

TODAY'S QUOTE

In order to serve others my cup must be full. What's inside the cup is mine and anything that runs over is for others.
