Knowing When To Let Go

There have been some changes in my life that have lead me to write this post. I'm the type of person to try so hard that I will burn myself up and give 100% to hang onto someone. Even if I'm not receiving 100% back.

Recently I've learnt to let go and I feel so much more healthier. It may sound cold or harsh, but what I've discovered is that when you grow, sometimes what's holding you back isn't your potential, but what's around you.

The seed outgrows the shell. The butterfly outgrows the cocoon. And in life, we are either growing together, or we are growing apart. This is true in romantic relationships, business relationships, friendships and all other forms of human relationships.

There's nothing wrong with growing apart. It could simply mean that there's new spiritual work to do with new people who have yet to enter your life.  A clean break is always better because it means they are now on a different path and in a different place compared to you. There's nothing wrong with that.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

Who is someone you find that you cannot be yourself around?

Is there anyone in your life that you used to have a bunch of things in common with but now you don't?

Do you find yourself just being polite around certain people and not telling them how you really feel with a sense of emotional intimacy?

Does anyone in your life make you feel badly about things that light you up or make you happy?

Chances are it might be time to move on, or at least get a little space.

“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.”

- Ann Landers

The more scared I am to let go, the greater the reward is on the other side.
