Backstage At The E. Tautz LCM AW16 Show

Patrick Grant backstage ahead of the E.Tautz show during The London Collections
I was fortunate enough to be backstage of the E. Tautz AW16 show and I got to chat to the creative director, Patrick Grant. I even asked if I could take a cheeky picture of him and he kindly complied. You may recognise Patrick from The Great British Sewing Bee TV series.

Patrick explained to me that it started off with him re-wearing some clothes he wore in the mid 80’s for a party and how he enjoyed how they felt. You know like the big pleated trouser, shirts with massive sleeves, deep arm holes, the looseness and softness to the clothes that we haven’t had in a decade and a half.

Kevin Luchmun was the guy behind the hair styling and he explained that he kept in line with the 1980's theme and used that as inspiration. He said he wanted to create big bouncy hair that was very loose while working with each models individual hair texture.

Kevin wanted to keep the hair as natural as possible however one of the key products he ended up working with was the Thickening Tonic. Using it on wet hair while blow drying it away from the face and then working it with fingers to try and create natural texture and movement. Another product that was used on some models was the Deconstructor to create separation and give a bit of a shine to the hair.

It was so manic backstage but I loved every minute of it. Patrick was helping dress some of the models himself and the others were adding the finishing touches. Patrick even had his nephews backstage and they were running around stealing food from the models (it was adorable).

I really respect Patrick Grant and I think he's rightfully earned his place in the industry. As well as E. Tautz he is the creative director of bespoke tailors Norton & Sons of Savile Row. Although his show for E. Tautz was over today, he still has the merchandising to do tomorrow followed by beginning his next spring collection! How crazy is that?!

Even though I was backstage and watching the show via screens there were some big names sat in the front row. The likes of David Gandy, Oliver Cheshire, Darren Kennedy and Jim Chapman were present.
